Team visit to the Basque Country and Catalunya

Despite a busy September with all of the house moving activities, Andy, Cam and I made a quick trip to the Basque Country and also Catalunya. Given that Daniel, Martu and Iker were leaving at the end of September and I had to be out of the house on the 15th, we made a window to make the journey down to those autonomous areas in what would most commonly be understood as Spain (a problematic understanding for many of the people with whom we serve, who are Basque and Catalan speakers, but perhaps a necessary one for you, the readers).

The books: a gift from God

Something that I have come to truly appreciate since I arrived in the Basque Country is the local culture. That includes my newly adopted home here as well as the culture of my homeland, Argentina. I especially like the art of writing, and the language and improvisation that come with it. I’ve been influenced both by the Bertsolaris in the Basque Country as well as the payadores and copleros in Argentina. Rappers from many parts of the world also inspire me with their art trying to sing about every aspect of life. Though I’m no professional, I try aim to do the same with my writing.

Restoration and celebration in the Basque Country

Something that we are experiencing in Kale Argia, our Basque-speaking community of faith, is seeing the grace and restoration of Jesus in people’s lives. And for that we give glory to God!

About a year ago, a young woman from the town of Hernani received Christ in her heart, and soon after she decided to be baptised. After being absent from the community for a while, she returned to the meetings, but this time accompanied by her boyfriend who soon also received Christ.

News from the Scott Family in the Basque Country

By God’s mercy, two and a half years ago we began with a team of Basque believers to plant a community of Christian faith in Euskara, the Basque language, here in the Basque Country. In 2019 the group was very small and we had meetings twice a month, but in 2020 the group grew and we began to meet every week as we continue to do today. As time went by we saw the conversion of Euskaldunes (Basque speakers) to Christ and the baptism of some of them. Without a doubt we saw the hand of God at work in the community! We can say that today the church in Basque, Kale Argia, is a reality and that there is a team of local Basque leaders. By the Lord’s grace and love, he allowed us to serve in this whole process, and we give all the glory to Him.

Director’s Update — June 2021

Greetings to all! I do hope that this month’s blog finds you all well. It has been a bit of an eventful time for us both here in Wales and other areas, where we have ministry and partnerships, and I say “eventful” in the good sense of the word. We rejoice in new opportunities that the Lord is giving to us to build relationships and make Him known, as we continue to move out of lockdown and have more freedom to get out and about and interact with others. By and large, the weather continues to cooperate, and it is truly beautiful now that flowers and vegetation are in full leaf and bloom.
