Director’s Update — April 2021

Atgyfododd Crist!!! – Christ is Risen!!!

I hope that this month’s update finds you all well! For those of us using the calendar of the Western Christian tradition, we have enjoyed the wonderful celebration of the Lord Jesus’ glorious and triumphant resurrection this month. Our brothers and sisters of the Eastern Christian tradition get their turn to celebrate on 2 May. Accordingly, you might just receive the paschal greeting two months in a row.

Sprachspielen: 6fis – open home

For the March instalment of Sprachspielen, I would like to continue the “mini series” that I started last month, speaking about the six components of what we call the “Six-fold Incarnational Strategy,” or for short: 6fis. I gave a rather thorough introduction to the basic philosophy behind the 6fis in last month’s instalment of Sprachspielen. I’m going to be writing this instalment under the assumption that the reader is familiar with what I shared last month about the 6fis in general. If not, I would encourage you to read the February 2021 instalment of this series, as it will give you the background you need to understand and move forward with this month’s editorial.

Linguæ Christi’s Virtual Student Missions for Summer 2021

We are all very excited to announce our Virtual Student Summer Missions programme for Summer 2021. There’s a lot of specific information available to you here on the website on the Short-Term Projects page. However, I’ll just give you a bit of background for this project. As most of you know, for many years we’ve had missions projects during the summer months for Christians, during their years of university studies, in order for them to participate in meeting various needs for our missionary work and ministry here on-field. We’ve been doing this a long time and we’ve had scores of people to come through these programmes, many of whom are now serving in missions or full-time ministry in local churches, even to this day!

Reshaping suffering

Over the years I’ve come to really appreciate the liturgical calendar. I grew up in a church that didn’t emphasise the seasons of liturgy, but at some point during university I began to practice its rhythms. It gave context to the holidays I absentmindedly celebrated as a child. Over the last year, it has created a sense of movement and change during a year where the rest of life feels like it’s moving in slow motion.

Sprachspielen: 6fis – prayer

With this month’s instalment of Sprachspielen, I would like to introduce a “mini-series” of sorts, where I deal with six different concepts over the coming months, which have a clear connection to each other and are seen by us as all being parts of a whole. I am referring to what we call our “Six-Fold Incarnational Strategy,” (hereafter, “6fis”). I realise that this title is a mouthful and sounds quite lofty and cerebral at first hearing, but I can assure you that there is no “rocket science” here, but a simple guide that we use in our personal and local ministries here in our various areas. You will have undoubtedly heard us speak about the 6fis on numerous occasions, and you can find it mentioned on our website in various places. Because the 6fis is so foundational to our work, I will be dealing with these six elements of the 6fis over the next few instalments of Sprachspielen.
